Google released a new “Google Camera” app for download (presumably packaged with the newest update coming down the tubes) – and it is pretty slick!

I installed it on the Nexus7 and did a few test photos.  Simulated Bokeh is done adequately unless you jack the setting all the way up (see pink monster in pig photo…jaggies).

 

These results clearly demonstrate clever software will increasingly become one of the deciding factors for prosumer cameras.  Not an alternative of poor composition, but certainly will help some people get “the shot” without having to spend money on wildly expensive lenses with.  Impressive results on a Nexus7.

It would be interesting to see if an image that is captured with a real camera could be imported and similarly jigged around – guessing not as extra image data (focal point) likely needs to be stored.
