Who They Are

PLEO is a family-led, non-profit organization based in Ontario, providing peer support to parents and caregivers of children, youth, and young adults up to age 25 who are navigating mental health and addiction challenges. Established in 2000 by three mothers supporting their children at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO), PLEO has grown to become a vital resource for families across Eastern Ontario. Their services are offered at no cost, funded through donations and partnerships

Services Offered

PLEO offers a range of services designed to support families:

  • Parents’ Helpline: A confidential, judgment-free line available Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., providing guidance on navigating the mental health system and finding local resources
  • Parent Support Groups: Facilitated groups where parents can share experiences, learn from each other, and receive support from Family Peer Supporters who have lived through similar challenges
  • One-on-One Mobile Support: Intensive, short-term support provided in-person within the community, typically over eight weeks, to address specific family needs
  • Bilingual Virtual Support: Available in select locations, offering flexibility for families needing support in French or those unable to attend in person

 

Impact and Feedback

Parents utilizing PLEO’s services report significant improvements in their ability to cope, support their children, and access necessary services. Over 90% of users feel less anxious, stressed, and isolated, and more empowered in advocating for their child’s needs.
